Social Media Mistakes 3: Propaganda Tactics

Having an open discussion and listening to what others have to say about you is the key to Social Media. It is more about cooperation than control; engaging your customers is much more important than trying to control them.
To feed your customers information, be it via the phone, through billboards, or through social media channels like blogs, Facebook, YouTube, etc is simply put, just mere propaganda. That is seldom very effective. The truth is however, that most companies use the vast possibilities of social media for just propaganda. When the element of interaction is lost, social media just becomes like any other advertisement.
Additionally, if your company needs to counter bad publicity and you decide to launch a social media campaign to help save the day, think carefully. If you can find a discussion on Google relating to your brand, those who have a bad feeling about it will not respond to your attempts to create a new channel with pre-decided talking points. If your company are having these problems, you need to ask yourself whether what you offer really is good enough and might be in need of further engagement with your customers.
