Kanye: The American Boy Decides to Run The Town With Twitter
Building a personal brand is very important for celebrities, and over the past few years they’ve begun to realise that there is no better way to do so than with social media. In fact, some celebs have blogged, Tweeted, Facebooked, MySpaced and YouTubed their way to success. On the other hand, some find it to be intrusive and useless, that is, until they see the value in it for themselves.
It’s official, Twitter hater Kanye West has finally joined the masses. In the past, Kanye has criticised Twitter for allowing its users to share too much information. The rapper also expressed his concern that someone was using an account under the name ‘Kanye West’ when he was certain that Twitter knew he did not have an account. So what made him change his mind and come over to the “dark-side”…well, who knows, maybe he’s realised the value of social media considering he has a new album due out in September.
Just one year ago he “blogged only 5 percent of what he was up to because he was too busy actually being creative” now he’s Tweeting about what he’s wearing, the fish he’s ordered for lunch and his new big screen TV. Apparently “everything Twitter offers I need less of” wasn’t so relevant once he realised there was money to be made with the help of social media.
Kanye accumulated over 180,000 followers on his first day alone. And, of course, he follows no one. Mr. West will stop at nothing to make a statement or have his opinion heard…I think this means Twitter will be getting a lot more interesting in the months to come!
As for his opinion about the social networking site now,
“My thoughts on Twitter so far… at the end of the day, God damnit I’m killing this shit!!!”
My advice, be sure to stay tuned for many more inspirational Tweets by Kanye West.
