Boring vs. Normal Campaign for Toshiba
Toshiba recently launched this interesting campaign in the US, that pitts two small-towns against one another to see who can do more interesting things with laptops: Boring, Oregon and Normal, Illinois. Yes, these places really do exist (see below)!

The campaign centres on celebrating how everyday people have the potential to achieve extraordinary things and how Toshiba laptops can add a little excitement to our everyday lives.
On the Boring vs. Normal site, a cast of everyday people from each of the towns are videoed (new videos are uploaded each week), following them through their individual journeys. Users vote on which town is more exciting for their chance to win a Toshiba laptop. The winning town will receive US$15,000 in laptop computers for its school district. However, more interesting than the campaign itself (for me anyways) is that the site is built in MySpace and the videos are shared through Vimeo and YouTube, which indicates another step in the right direction – one where social media is considered at the centre of the campaign rather than a last minute after thought. The kudos for delivering this goes to social media agency, M80 in LA.
In connection to the competition, they have released several videos which gives a playful homage to what we normally find boring and normal. Some are pretty funny (I like the egg toss one embedded below) and while they all won’t leave you heaving with laughter, you will crack a smile at the very least.
