Wally & Hermes enter a new Dimension of Luxury Yachting

WHY? The answer is Wally Hermes Yachting a joint venture of Hermes and the Monte Carlo based Wally Yachts signed in June 2008. Both are no strangers when it comes to luxury. This fabulous partnership might result in a product the world hasn’t seen so far. The first WHY study is 58 metres long 38 metres wide floating resort creating an area of 3400 square meters, enough high quality living room for 12 passengers and 20 crew members.

Pierre-Alexis Dumas, Artistic Director of Hermès explained how it came to this unusual partnership: “When we met, in autumn 2007, Luca Bassani Antivari, President of Wally had thought about asking Hermès to accessorise the interior of one of his boats. I was impressed by the daring of his projects. My instinct was to get on board with him and go and seek out new territories in yacht design, but I had no interest in speed.”

WHY’s conception of design and space defines a completely new dimension of luxury and sustainability. The yacht’s unusual triangular shape is inspired by investigations of the latest wind energy production and propulsion systems and leads a significant reduction of its energy and fuel consumption. Beside being powered by a highly efficient diesel electric engine 900 square meters of solar panels supply the boat’s auxiliary systems

Well, saving the planet doesn’t seem to be the main motivation to buy such a boat but WHY shows that both aspects sustainability and design can go hand in hand. The hard facts are impressive: Its horseshoe like shape bathes all the yacht’s areas in warm daylight. Stairs and an elevator connect the three decks allowing access to a 25 meter pool, a spa, helicopter pad, sauna, gym and massage room, a 130 meter promenade, a music room, a dining room, a cinema, sun decks, suites, terraces, a lounge and 36 meter long deck beach.

The owner’s suite with its 200 square meters and a 25 meter long terrace covers the whole third deck and offers a stunning sea view. Since Hermes as a respected luxury fashion and leather goods house from Paris has been involved into all steps of creation the interior with waterproof water buffalo decor screams of luxury as well.
