Sydney’s “Fabulous” and “Glamorous” Fashion Week
Australian Fashion week 2010 was fabulous if we believe all the reviews on the net. Yet there are some small buts if it comes to a big event like this; it’s not only that we always need something to complain about, but some things are also tough to arrange during big and fabulous shows like these.
Creating the most impressive fashion collection is only half the job if you are a designer. How many stars you can get up to in the front rows during the show sells the product, so is maybe even more important. When there are people holding their breathes about what kind of clothes will represent the designer, the designers worry about the celebs from all around the world that have to sit in the front rows during their show…at leased to get some respect for their work trough publicity.
There are not much designer that are making real good money. The secret is that they can of course not tell this to the world because if they want to sell they have to look fabulous and successful.
Because the variety in oversees stars was not that big during Fashion Week in Sydney this year, the world-famous show brought out Sydney’s social set: Jennifer Hawkins, Manning Cartell, Aurelio Costarella, Jodi Gordon, Braith Anasta, Erin McNaught, Natasha Cunningham to sit in the front rows.
Next to the difficult war for designers a group of plus-sized models protested. The ‘curvy’ girls claimed they had been shut out by the Australian industry and they were wearing T-shirts with slogans such as “I love my curves.” Big Gal Models agent Darrianne Donnelly said the industry had gone backwards after showcasing 18 plus-size models last year. “The public wants to see themselves, in all shapes and sizes, not just size 6,” Darrianne reviewed to Sydney’s Daily Telegraph.
Besides all the comments and critical publicity, Sydney’s Fashion Week was outstanding successfully this year, with extravagant flourishes, feathered eyebrows, men in skirts, pink nipple tassels and models painted blue like in the movie Avatar. Between all the shows and fabulous designers of Sydney’s Fashion Week, celebrities headed to the Rosemount ‘Diamond In You’ wine bar, where all the fabulous and beautiful people relaxed between shows.
The aim of Sydney’s Australian Fashion Week was to promote a new guard of Australian designers locally and overseas in a market that is strengthening after last year’s global financial crisis. London, New York, Paris and Milan are the world’s four fashion capitals and Australia is trying to position itself as the top fashion centre of the Asia Pacific.
