Kevin Rudd’s Downfall Marks a Creative Edge in Advertising

Kevin Rudd was always seen somewhat as an outsider in his own party, because he relied more on his personal popularity and success to guide the leadership decisions rather than on the factional warlords which had always tended to drive the position before. Rudd did experience triumph briefly during his term when he assumed power by determining his own cabinet in a break from Labour tradition, attempting to ‘save’ the party from itself. However this of course did not please the more powerful members within the Labour Party and in February his reputation began to plummet with the party leaders as well as the Australian people. So, although the fall and dismissal of Rudd was swift, the decline was much slower.

The one time popular Prime Minister became ousted by the Labour coup and he was forced to step down as the leader of the Labour Party. This is the first time a Labour prime minister has been removed before completing the first term. Now Ms Julia Gillard, Rudd’s former deputy, is the first female PM stepped in to replace him.  This enables the Labour’s last vote to be saved and the possibility to win an election in a few months.

Advertising and marketing gurus are not missing this opportunity to seize the moment and incorporate a little humour into any possible moment, whether it comes to selling furniture or a dating website. Rudd is really receiving the jabs from all types of media right now and despite what political side is your forte, it is hard not to laugh at the dry humour. We just hope that he will be able to hold his tears back, unlike last time.
